Title: Mobile Health Computing in Smart Elder Care
Abstract
Back in 1981, ACM coined a term called Health Computing in its “A Model Curriculum for Doctoral-level Programs in Health Computing.” This term has been dormant until Jeannette M. Wing and Peter J. Denning brought the concept of Computational Thinking into the light. Equally important, if not more, is that prominent figures in the medical world including Dr. Eric Topol has recognized the ultimate power of computing, and has started to embrace it wholeheartedly. Among all computing technologies, mobile computing has consistently been touted as a major force in transforming healthcare industry. In this talk, we explored how to explore the concept, framework and technologies of mobile health computing to face the unprecedented challenge of global silver tsunami. Particularly, we will share our initial research effort in China.

Li Lian is a professor of School of Computer and Information in Hefei University of Technology. Also, he is the head of theoretic computer science technical committee of China Computer Federation, and the head of national steering committee for instruction of college computer education. He graduated as a mathematical Master in Lanzhou University at 1982. His main researching interesting are including machine learning, network computing, wireless network. He having founded programs from NSF and MOST (Ministry of Science and Technology) on network collaborative environments for science researching, Opportunistic Communication in case of debris flow , data analysis for Wearable Devices , and Chinese university grid. He has published about 80 papers independently or cooperatively.

Ning An has a Ph. D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University, USA and is an IEEE Senior Member and a ACM Life Member. Dr. An is the founding director of HFUT Gerontechnology Lab which is the first of its kind in mainland China, and he is also the PI for the International Research Base for Developing Innovative Gerontechnology supported by Chinese Ministry of Education and State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs. Prior to HFUT, Dr. An had worked at Oracle Inc. as a technical staff for 10 years. His research interests include Gerontechnology, Mobile Health Technologies, Spatial Information Management, Web Services, Internet of Things Technologies and Crisis Information Management. In addition to publishing more than thirty papers in leading international journals (including VLDBJ and TKDE) and top international conferences (including VLDB, SIGIR, ICDE, WWW and ICDM), Dr. An published two books and one book chapter, and wrote three patent applications among which one was granted.
